The History and the Developmental Perspectives of the Short-Term Dynamic Psychotherapy

Abstract

To finish the treatment in a short duration is fascinating for the psychotherapists in these days. The patients and the society demand short term therapy because of the problems of cost, time and endeavors. The pressure of Managed Care Systems in U.S.A. for cutting the cost is the essential impact. The psychotherapists are at the urgent demand of the surround and have to learn and practice the short term psychotherapy. In studying some- thing, it is the fundamental procedure to know their origin and development. The Author reviewed the root of the short term dynamic psychotherapy of the western medicine and compared it to the Korean psychotherapy. In modern Korean psychotherapy, Korean Academy of Psychotherapists (KAP) has been a pioneering group which practiced and studied long-term and short-term psychotherapy. The practice of the members of KAP is similar to that of the western psychodynamic psychotherapy and its fundamental is based on Tao.
KAP was successful at the short-term dynamic psychotherapy. Now, it is required that the success of the practice of the members of KAP should be acknowledged and spread to the western psychotherapists as well as Korean Psychotherapists. KAP need to verify the effectiveness of its practice in more persuasive form and educate the practice for the beginners of the psychotherapy.
